Beauty is…..

I decided today that I would go back and talk about beauty that is discoverable in the world.  So today, I want to talk about glass.  And really it’s actually quite a massive topic.  There is all sorts of different glass used for different purposes and colours and frosted glass, designed glass, blown glass - my goodness, SO much!

I don’t know if you have ever seen any Lalique pieces, but honestly, they are unique and absolutely amazing.  Both father and son created work that will stand the test of time (as long as nobody breaks or smashes them).  They did clear and frosted glass ornaments that I think are amazing every time I see them on programmes or documentaries on the tv.

Then you come to things like Swarovski crystal.  Now I have actually got some ornaments from them and they do beautiful work that is easy to access.  I have noticed that they now also do jewellery too and the coloured glass beads are outstanding.  Do you know something?  I admire the work and the value they have and the attention paid to whatever is produced from them.

Do you remember the stunning glass decanters that were so ornate and decorative in the past?  And that they were truly beautiful.  Oh, and the glass chandeliers?  On the television I have seen in house building and decorating that they save these because of the cost and clean and reuse them in the house.  And oh, they glitter so spectacularly either in the sun or when the lights are on.  Makes for such beauty within a house and yet I haven’t seen one in a person’s home since my parents had one years ago.

And do you know what I found truly amazing?  Was when i painted a g;ass plate years ago and put a picture on the back and used gold for the lines and then coloured paints for in the middle.  Actually, I can’t remember what happened to the plate.  I know it’s somewhere in the house…hm,, I think I will need to find it and get it out and see what it is like.  I think it had a butterfly on and some sky but I can’t remember anything else.  At the time, I had considered doing it myself at home but I never got the paints or the glass that I would decorate.  Hm.  If I can find the glass plate and photograph it I’ll let you see.

But my favourite glass of all is stained glass windows.  They bring a beauty and glory out that no other windows can.  When you go to places like cathedrals and abbeys, you can see the joy the artist had in creating to the top of their ability.  They are stunning and add to the grandeur of the buildings they adorn.

And when you think glass originates from SAND, it just seems unbelievable.  So much beauty and joy in the world created from sand.  Something that is so small and in many places in the world.  Wherever there is a sea or ocean there is sand and sometimes even lakes..you have the hot black sand you get in places like Tenerife or just the usual sand that is everywhere and so common.  Something so tiny and unremarkable that can bring such beauty and joy when it is create into something either useable or ornamental and precious to have.
