Organisation and Remembering
Did I ever tell you I have difficulty with organisation? I can’t think where to put things, so it often falls on Kevin to work it out for me . One of the things I really struggle with is remembering to take my medication, or to realise that I’ve run out of things. And my tablets and injections are vital to my wellbeing and ability to function.
Now this doesn’t mean that the challenges I face can’t be overcome. They can, but you may have to discover how to sort them so you don’t forget or can’t have things in order. It has been very interesting watching our partially disabled cat adjust to living the best life she can. Rather than jumping up and down on things, she prefers to climb. That’s just her way of handling her difficulties.
People have many different challenges to face. I know there are things I don’t know or understand in other people’s lives, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try. And I do try to, but I don’t always remember to give people grace and extend my empathy and compassion to them.
I don’t have a brilliant memory and Kevin can tell me something and things can be very disconcerting when they happen because I haven’t remembered! One incident that happened recently was that we got Johnathan a new mattress and Kevin had told me the day they were going to deliver the new mattress and take the old one away.
That Friday morning a knock at the door before 8am was a surprise. I could see they had a new mattress with them but having forgotten what Kevin said, I hadn’t prepared things for their arrival. Fortunately they were gracious and gave me time to try and organise things, even though Johnathan was getting ready for school and Kevin to go into the main office building to work that day.
