Anika’s Pick of the Week 12
Today one of my friends that I hadn’t seen or spoken to for a number of years, messaged me to let me know that she’s sadly been diagnosed with cancer. Kevin and I both have lots of different conditions but thankfully we have never had cancer.
I must admit it gave me a shock and I thought of all sorts of things I could tell her from my knowing some people who did have cancer, even my mother. There are many things that bring you up short but this is not something that anybody wants to hear.
One of the doctors looking after me came and said she could remember me from the past and was SURE she had seen me somewhere. I said I didn’t know and when she went out to check her files and apparently she told me she had operated on me 10 years before on my gallbladder and removed it. She asked me if I remembered them nearly losing me in the first ten seconds….um no. Thankfully that I don’t remember. Far too many other things I do!
There are so many things to consider when you have any condition, even a new one like cancer. I know there are many differences in any condition, but I think any sickness, or tiredness, or pain are the worst things to deal with. And it doesn’t even have to be physical but mental conditions can be even worse or emotional can cause tremendous upset in a person’s body that can really mess someone up.
TREASURE
Even when I know someone has a condition, I have something I can do to help them! I love people and want to help them any way I can. And you can make a difference to a life or family or community yourself, too.
