They Lie In Fields

They lie in fields of the unknown dead

All a brother, sister, wife, husband or friend

But they simply don’t each walk back home

And are mourned with every bated breath.

It doesn’t really matter who they are

Or who they have even been.

The life that was now cut short

May not be remembered by all.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t grieve

They are so very important to you

You have given the ultimate sacrifice

Needing time to heal in your heart.

They will never truly be forgotten

As long as the time that you live

And you can pass their memory on

So future generations can remember too.

They have pledged and given their all

And you at home remember them

Light a candle to honour them

Or whatever it is that helps you
