Our bodies and burnout

I am in a place where I can say I don’t THINK I have ever had burnout, but actually I’ve come pretty dang close to it.  There are days I remember my body just stopping in weird places like right in the middle of the road….

However, when I arrived in Scotland, I had no memory of my past.  I mean, I knew it had happened and I was 34 years old but the first month I was here, I think I cried through it.  There were times I didn’t but mostly I did.

I remember reading a biography and the author had been with the lady it was about and the heart was nearly 3 times the size it should be!  He asked her to slow down or stop but she just kept on trying to “push through” and “not give in to it.”

I will admit, those sentiments sound pretty good, don’t they?  You’ve probably heard them or seen them written down.  But do you know what they do to you?  Destroy you.  Your body will fight back and if you decide you will fight it, you’ll not be the winner in the end.

Of course, I’m not giving you permission to do anything and be stupid about it.  Your body needs to be looked after and cared for as gently as you would nurture a new born child.  Give it the love and attention it needs and don’t begin to allow it to even totter near the path of burnout.
