Creative Interests

Have you ever thought about creative interests and WHAT you could  be inspired by?  As you probably know there are people who have the love of creativity and others who have the love for science.  But there are others who appear to have the pleasure and delight in both of them.

Let me take you back to someone you probably know.  Have you heard of Beatrix Potter?  The lady who wrote all those cute animal stories?  There was a cinema production of her life.  Did you know she was a respected scientist and drew some perfect illustrations of flora and fauna?  She wasn’t JUST a writer of children’s books, but was also an illustrator, and conservationist as well.

You see, as a writer, you don’t have to JUST write.  In fact, some people do other creativity BEFORE they do writing or are published authors.  Most creative people do other things, too.  And if you know the creative spirit it doesn’t actually mean you are banned from creative pursuits, or vice versa.

Think about Inventors who created things like the telegraph.  No, not the Telegraph newspaper, the telegram that you would get from her late majesty the Queen when you reached the age of 100.  My husband says that every scientific discovery helps to create the next one.

So you can’t just be creative in artistic fields but the scientific ones as well.  And if you think mathematic calculations are not included, well, you just try and build something like the pyramids of Egypt without any calculations.  Or what about someone in astrology?  Well, they have to use created scientific instruments to read the sky!

When you look at something, why not think of the creative souls that made it?  What different aspects they used in the creation of whatever it is.  Beauty, art, creativity, science, all combined to create the chair you sit on, well, everything.  As children you begin to learn how to do all these disciplines, sometimes in separate subjects depending on the education plan they follow.

There’s quite a lot of things I admire about the Georgian and Victorian era, but one of the biggest things is the pride people took in creating for others to enjoy.  Everything has that time and individuality that makes the piece you are looking at.

So don’t think creative people are only interested the arts.  What they do may surprise you.  And build up your child’s creative interests by encouraging them in different subjects,
