Starting School Again
This can be very traumatic for both adults and children alike. They have no say in the matter and with children on the spectrum it can really cause difficulties. When the child returns to school they don’t know what changes they might be facing .
To help ease Johnathan back to school he is shown exactly where he will be the last of the term and he sees everything and knows then where he will be going and what he will be doing. That seems to make a difference to him.
Getting back into the semi-sort of sleeping arrangement that you have for your child isn’t easy. The clothes, if they have grown again, might be itchy or not fit in the way they would like. One thing I have found helpful is connecting with the member of staff for children and TELL them the difficulties you are experiencing. You’ll probably find they have encountered these difficulties before or something similar. And if they don’t know, there might be someone who does.
Working with the school isn’t easy as we already know but it’s good to do it, because then they know what they are supporting and you can be reassured by that. I must admit, once I have told the deputy head and listened to his ideas or who he is going ask an answer makes me feel much better .
I do understand children can be in the wrong schools and you need to move them because of it. And if you discover that is the case, then you need to fight for your child and get them changed. Sometimes it’s a LONG journey, but that’s ok. You need to do whatever is right for your child.
