Plans and people with autism

Now as you already know if you have read my posts before, changing plans or something is often too much for my son to handle even though he is 10 years old.

I had been chatting through with a professional organiser what we can do with his room so he can fit everything in.  We were thinking possibly new paint or new wallpaper and were discussing how we could get it done in a timely fashion for him.

Well, I knew I should ask him first before we start making plans because, after all, it IS HIS bedroom!  So I asked him if there was anything he could change in the room what would it be?  He responded with “Space.  Because I love the wallpaper and look at it in the mornings sometimes and think of all the different robots etc…”

OK then!  Our ideas of changing that was really NOT going to work if this is not the problem he finds in his bedroom.  I suppose he chose it at 15 months so it’s been up on the walls many years.

I started thinking that he had begun with space but there is his bed and shelves etc so whatever it would, needs to be higher.  Suddenly it came to me - HAMMOCKS!

So I made the suggestion and heard the excited intake of breath and stared at the massive eyes…I did say they would be quite a few of them needing to be made because they couldn’t ALL fit in one.

Now I have some planning to do….and colours for him to choose…collaboration!  And if you’re lucky I might share what I do with you! lol
