Fantasy? Really?

I want to talk to you about fantasy fiction.  Well, I suppose in some ways ALL fantasy is fiction because it’s not real.  That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have certain fundamentals that need to be followed because it does..

You may/may not know the CS Lewis series of Narnia, but if you DO, you will know the references when you hear/see them.  And I must admit I do enjoy finding them.

This is me and my discovering that, actually, I think I have the ability to write fantasy.  A couple of weeks ago I saw a prompt for a fantasy tale and I had it blaring in the back of my mind until the day OF the entry for the competition.  I found myself pondering over some scraps of writing that COULD become fantasy.

So……what did I do?  Yep, you guessed it!  WROTE IT!  And sent it to some people to read and they all loved it.  I couldn’t figure out how to send it in for the competition, but Kevin did, just before we went to bed.

Now, I have NO idea what the judges will think of it.  What I am looking for is actually some comments as to what is done well and what is not done well.

I never thought I could write anything fantasy but all my younger years were mostly spent READING them….so I HAVE got LOTS of experience of it.   I know this won’t be my only venture into the exciting arena, so I’ll just have to see what happens.
