Looking at me

You’re standing there looking at me

And yet I know you don’t really see me

You see the person you want to see

When you’re standing, looking at me

You don’t want to pay the price of it all

When seeing that pain deep inside

It’s not a path you want to travel

When you’re standing, looking at me

The cost is too great.  I know it is

Because I’m the one that pays it

You wouldn’t have a clue how to

When you’re standing, looking at me

Playing the part I was made for

It’s a relief to drop it at times

As I see other people I learn to trust

When you’re standing, looking at me

Do you think I want to be here?

Somehow you know that I don’t

You could see past it all

When you’re standing, looking at me

So will you be the only one

That sees the hurt inside me?

And says “Yes, I’ll be willing”

When you’re standing, looking at me

You can be there for others too

When you see what’s hidden inside

Your heart can be prepared to help

When you’re standing, looking at me.
