Coffee Shop

You find yourself strangely attracted to a stranger at your local coffee shop.  Before you go over, they approach you and say “Is it just me  or is there something else between us?”

“Is it just me or is there something else between us?” he said as he walked across the coffee shop to me, where my usual seat by the window was.

“Do you know, when I had finished my cake I was going to come and ask you the exact same question.” I replied to him, as he sat at my table, gesturing that he could.

Without thinking I pushed the rest of my cake towards him, with the spare fork I had on it for him to eat it with.  Well I was well able to leave my cake alone (and probably should) but somehow I knew he would like it.

He gently took the fork from me and started eating it . “ummmmmmm lovely cake.  People have forgotten about black forest gateau but it has never got old for me and I can see it is the same for you.”

“I just love all the flavours and I used to make it semi-regularly as a child.  Yes, Christmas was about it and we had it every year.  In fact, I love it more than actual Christmas Cake or pudding.  What about you?”  She leaned over to clean off a spot of cream he had on his nose while he leaned forward to make it easier for her to do so.

“Me? Christmas?  Well I was bought up in a home and I didn’t have all the lovely treats, so I am making the most of it now.”  He looked at her appraisingly as he finished the last wee bit of cake and used one wetted finger to pick up the crumbs.

“I am so sorry to hear that.  Children’s Homes can be any way from very bad to very good and anything in between.“

He grimaced at her and shrugged. “Anyway, what are you doing today?  I want to take you on a magical journey through Christmas in this town.”

And every time they would sit down with a hot chocolate around Christmas times in coffee shops that served Black Forest Gateaux, they would smile and asked each other if they remembered the first time they met….
